🎯 About the Role – Software Engineer

As a Software Engineer at Tower Research Capital, you will work on some of the most challenging and technically advanced software systems in the financial world.

This role will give you direct exposure to:

• High-frequency trading systems

• Network-level performance optimization

You will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and extending software that supports trading, market data processing, risk calculations, and operational workflows.

🛠 Key Responsibilities

1. Build & Optimize Trading Infrastructure

• Design, develop, and maintain efficient, robust, and reusable software modules.

• Enhance the firm’s low-latency / high-throughput trading environment.

• Re-architect performance-critical systems to reduce latency, increase throughput, and ensure deterministic execution.

2. Risk & Performance Tooling

• Build internal tools that track real-time performance metrics.

• Create state-of-the-art risk management and post-trade lifecycle applications.

• Develop reconciliation and audit automation workflows used across trading teams.

3. Enterprise Software Engineering

• Design and implement scalable solutions that support operational, analytical, and trading workflows.

• Evaluate and re-implement components of Cactus (Tower’s production trading environment) to improve speed and reliability.

4. Collaboration & Technical Leadership

• Work alongside quantitative researchers, traders, and senior engineers to understand system requirements.

• Translate business needs into highly optimized and maintainable technical designs.

• Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and performance tuning sessions.

5. Continuous Improvement

• Research new technologies, architectures, and algorithms to improve system efficiency.

• Benchmark hardware/software performance and identify bottlenecks.

• Contribute to Tower’s culture of innovation by initiating improvements across systems and workflows.

🧠 Required Qualifications

Tower hires engineers with extremely strong foundational and problem-solving abilities. The ideal candidate will have:

Technical Skills

• Strong CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, memory models, OS internals

• Expertise in C++ (preferred), or strong OOP skills in low-level languages

• Working knowledge of Linux environments and system-level programming

• Familiarity with Python, shell scripting, or automation tools

• Ability to write clean, high-performance, multi-threaded code

• Experience with distributed systems and event-driven architectures (plus)

Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills

• Exceptional logic and reasoning ability

• Comfort with ambiguity and complex system debugging

• Passion for building high-performance, mission-critical infrastructure

Soft Skills

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
